About Sell The Car
Sell The Car has been buying damaged, non-running, and faulty cars and vans directly from the public since 2009. We specialise in vehicles that most buyers won't touch: cars with engine failure, gearbox problems, electrical faults, failed MOTs, and accident or flood damage, alongside cars that simply won't start or drive at all. Where a private sale or a traditional dealer sees a problem, we see a routine purchase.
What We Specialise In
We're not a general car-buying service that occasionally takes on a damaged vehicle — fault and damage cars are the entire business. We buy:
- Non-runner cars — any vehicle that won't start or can't be safely driven, regardless of why
- Cars with engine failure — from a blown head gasket or snapped timing belt to a fully seized engine
- Cars with gearbox or transmission failure — manual, automatic, or DSG
- Cars with electrical faults — dead batteries, faulty alternators, wiring problems, or anything that stops a car starting
- MOT-failed cars — any failure category, including structural and "dangerous" classifications
- Broken cars generally — turbo failures, DPF faults, and faults that haven't been formally diagnosed
- Accident, fire, and flood-damaged cars, including Category C and Category D write-offs
Because this is the whole of what we do, we don't need a fault to be diagnosed, repaired, or even fully understood before we give you a price. A general description of what's wrong is enough to get started.
Why Sell Your Car to Us
Three things determine whether selling a damaged or non-running car is a good experience: the price, how quickly you're paid, and how little hassle is involved in getting there. We've built the service around all three.
- Free collection, anywhere in the UK — including cars that can't be driven and need to be recovered rather than towed by hand.
- No haggling, fees, or hidden charges — the price we offer is the price you're paid; we don't renegotiate downward once we've seen the car.
- Fast payment — once you've accepted an offer, payment is arranged ahead of collection, not weeks afterward.
- We'll try to beat a genuine better offer — if you've already had a quote elsewhere, let us know and we'll see if we can improve on it.
- No need to repair anything first — you sell the car exactly as it is, fault and all, using just the V5C registration certificate.
A Straightforward Process
Getting a quote starts with your registration number or make and model, plus a description of the car's condition, we'll handle the rest. The site is built to answer the questions that come up at every stage, from how the process works and what documents you'll need, through to a full FAQ section, so you're not left guessing what happens next.
What Our Customers Say
We're rated 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot, based on more than 2,500 reviews, a track record built over more than a decade of buying cars other buyers turn down. The feedback we hear most consistently covers the same three things we focus on: fair prices that are honoured without last-minute reductions, fast and reliable payment, and a collection process that runs smoothly and on schedule, including from customers who'd previously had poor experiences with private buyers or other car-buying services.
